My next step is to try and put the key into an unattend file and see if that gets it to work, but I have my doubts. I just activate two machines this morning - one using the GUI and then one using the command line after I saw your post and had no issues. I think I'd go to a machine already installed and activated with the VL edition and change the key to the one you are trying to use and see if it activates or throws the error. If it throws the error I'd suspect a problem with the key.
That's a good thought, but I don't have any machines that are activated with the VL. Even the original installation from the iso file fails activation.

Entered step 3 and 4 4 was rejected, because i was not online. Connected to the internet and repeated step 4, ok. System activation check said : not activated. Took a few minutes, then it was changed into activated. Tried to change the license key to the one that was in the fast ring update pack of TH1, failed.
